The MP4/6 is what F1 was before computers reshaped it. From the following season, semi-automatic gearboxes became standard. By the late 1990s, the era this car represents was structurally extinct.

Senna's familiarity: Native. He raced this car for the full 1991 season, winning seven races and the championship. The 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix victory at Interlagos, with the gearbox stuck in sixth gear for the final laps, was in this car.

Hamilton's familiarity: Substantial adaptation cost. He has never raced a manual-gearbox car with no traction control, no power steering, and no electronic driver aids. His fundamental skills translate; his car-specific technique built over 18+ years in modern paradigms does not.

The W11 is what F1 became after four decades of technological evolution. Every system that the MP4/6 demands the driver operate manually is automated or assisted in the W11.

Hamilton's familiarity: Native. He raced this car for the 2020 season, winning 11 of 17 races and equalling Schumacher's seven-championship record. The 2020 Turkish Grand Prix victory, from sixth on the grid in extreme wet conditions, was in this car.

Senna's familiarity: Substantial adaptation cost. He never raced a hybrid F1 car. No paddle-shift experience, no DRS, no ERS, no power steering background. His fundamental skill (pace, racecraft, wet weather, qualifying intensity) translates partially; his technique built around the analog era does not.

The car of Michael Schumacher's seventh World Championship. The most refined of the V10 era. The neutral testbed neither Senna nor Hamilton raced.

Ferrari Type 053 3.0-litre V10 naturally aspirated engine producing approximately 865 hp at 18,300 rpm in race trim. Seven-speed semi-automatic sequential paddle-shift gearbox. Traction control (legal in 2004). Advanced telemetry. No power steering.

The F2004 sits between the MP4/6 and the W11 technologically. It has the semi-automatic gearbox and electronics that the MP4/6 lacks, but the naturally aspirated V10 and absence of power steering keep it closer to Senna's era than to Hamilton's. Neither driver raced this car. Both are adapting.

Senna's familiarity: Closer to his era. Semi-automatic gearboxes had begun appearing in F1 by 1993; traction control was briefly legal in 1993. The technological gap from the MP4/6 to the F2004 is real but architecturally familiar.

Hamilton's familiarity: Moderate adaptation cost. He was 19 when this car raced, watching F1 closely but not yet in it. The V10 engine, semi-automatic gearbox, and electronics are architecturally familiar from his early career era and lower formulas. The car is older than anything he raced, but the technology paradigm is recognizable.

Counter-clockwise, undulating surface, mixed corner types, weather-prone. Senna's home circuit. His 1991 victory there, with the gearbox stuck in sixth gear for the final laps, is one of the most celebrated drives in F1 history. The track rewards confidence in fast corners and adaptive footwork on the lumpy tarmac — Senna's documented strengths. It is his strongest track alongside Monaco.

High-speed circuit dominated by long straights, heavy braking zones, and a chicane sequence that rewards precision over commitment. Rewards slipstream tactics, raw pace, and overtaking ability. The track most likely to produce surprise outcomes — strategic upsets are in Monza's documented history, and the simulation has more dimensions to work with here than at Monaco or Interlagos.

Figure-8 layout, every major corner type represented, weather-prone in the autumn window, considered by most current and former drivers the most technically demanding circuit in F1. Both drivers won championships at Suzuka. Neither has a documented structural advantage there. This is the track most likely to compress the matchup toward a close contest.

Street circuit, narrowest track in F1, zero margin for error. Rewards single-lap qualifying brilliance and faultless race execution. Senna won six times at Monaco. Hamilton has won three. The track structurally favors Senna's profile more than any other circuit in the selector. This is his strongest ground.

The rain slider runs from completely dry to the maximum conditions under which the race would still run — the point where a race director's red flag becomes the next question. The simulation stays below that threshold throughout.

As rain increases, the wetWeather dimension weight grows relative to all other attributes. Senna leads Hamilton on documented wet-weather performance (0.97 vs 0.94), so heavier rain amplifies his advantage. In extreme conditions, wetWeather becomes the dominant dimension, and Senna's documented ceiling — Donington 1993, Monaco 1984, Estoril 1985 — is the reference point that pulls the distribution.

The engine also applies a background stochastic each run: actual race conditions vary slightly around the slider setting, as they do in real races. Rain can intensify through a lap sequence or ease off. The slider sets the mean; the stochastic sets the spread.

In the wet, tire management matters less (wet tyres are not managed for degradation the same way as dry compounds), which incidentally reduces Senna's documented disadvantage on tire wear.
